Probe

A probe found in dev build 0.227

A probe is a device designed to collect samples from objects and places outside the ship. They are utilised to retrieve samples for scientific study in places either too dangerous or otherwise too inaccessible to starship crew. Tactically it might too, make sense to send a probe rather than expose crew into unsecured environments as a prior action in advance of establishing a physical presence. Probes are stored in Probe Storage and launched from facilities located in the aft of Deck C (Science level) on Magellan class starships.

Gameplay

When used, they are sent to a target, such as a planet's surface to collect a sample and return it to the facility. The specimens captured are currently neither non specifiable by type before the probe is sent nor directed to precise coordinates. They are known to include plants, other general biological life and rock samples among the items retrieved.

Development

Probes are to be implemented in patch 0.231.1.0 and experimenting and testing with them began in dev build 0.227.0.5. In current builds, the probe gathers a sample prop for the NPC crew to handle.
