A Magellan Class is a type of starship used by the United Nations Space Fleet. It is a retrofitted interplanetary spaceship developed as the first working prototype for an starship capable of faster than light travel for research and exploration. The first prototype vessel of this class serves as the main default playable vessel for players in Starship Simulator, named by default as the UNSF Magellan.
Layout
Exterior
The Magellan class is largely oval in shape, though features a rectangular shape in its aft section. Protruding from the aft section are four nacelles which house the main propulsion engines. Four RCS thrusters are located around the outer edge of the circular portion. An FTL coil surrounds the vessel, connecting with the port and starboard sides and underside through a large fin which serves as additional decks below engineering. Turret hardpoints can be found topside, foreword of the bridge.
Interior
Most Magellan decks are circular by design. A central room exists on most decks, containing important rooms such as the bridge, the data centre and fusion reactor. Surrounding the central ring is Ring A, a central corridor connected to it and other rooms surrounding the ring. C deck and F deck contain an additional ring, while D deck and E deck feature a larger C ring and additional corridors for engineering access.
Decks
A Deck
The top deck and the command centre of the ship. The A deck houses the bridge, the Captain and Executive Officer's offices, and the conference room. These rooms are equipped with windows that can serve as 3d displays of various scenes of Earth. The bridge corridor is adorned with a wood carving, representing the topography of Earth.
B Deck
The second deck, serving as the administration deck and is where you can find the stateroom quarters on the Magellan. The deck contains a singular ring corridor, a data centre, and a VIP lounge with a kitchen, toilets, and A deck access.
C Deck
The third deck from the top, serving as the main science level. The deck houses science labs, storage facilities and the probe storage area.
D Deck
The fourth deck from the top, housing upper habitation. It features crew cabins, a mall, the mess hall, a bar, medical facilities, hydroponics and the shuttle control room.
E Deck
The fifth deck from the top, housing lower habitation. It features crew quarters, the lower mall area, and the main shuttle bay.
F Deck
The sixth deck from the top, housing engineering. It features the reactor room, the lower maintenance tunnels, cryogenic storage and battery rooms.
G Deck
The seventh deck from the top, housing engineering. It features the main reactor control room, cryogenic storage and start capacitors.
Development
Prototype Magellan designs featured a circular shape featuring engines at the back. The FTL ring and fin were added in the upcoming patch 0.225
