AVA (Advanced Voice Assistant) is the synthesized voice interface for the main computer systems aboard the UNSF Magellan in Starship Simulator.

Function

Ava serves as the primary auditory feedback system for the crew, providing information such as:

  • System status updates
  • Alert notifications
  • Guidance during procedures (e.g., voice lines during Long Range sensor surveys)
  • Potentially other acknowledgements or responses related to ship operations.

Development

AVA was first implemented into Starship Simulator in 0.223 versions of Tech Demo 2. In her original versions, she was voiced by a text to speech application. Unsatified with the results, AVA's voice was re-recorded by Dan Govier from version 0.224 versions. Dan's voice was modulated for the character.

Implementation and Notes

Ava's voice lines began to be implemented during the 0.225.x Dev Build Update History|development cycle, with specific mentions relating to sensor operations (e.g., Dev Build Update History#2024-11-04|Build 0.225.0.55).
