Lore
Description from Dan
"The Scrag are a very old, insectoid race that exist as individual colonies. Each colony largely manages its own affairs, with very little in the way of overall government across the race. Some colonies are planet bound, whereas others cruise the galaxy on massive colony ships. They are organised like ant colonies, with a cast system and a Queen.
The one unifying belief amongst the various colonies is a general loathing for mammalian life. They are generally indifferent towards other insectoid races, but are openly hostile towards the warm blooded, which they consider to be distasteful and substandard.
Physically they are fairly thin and spidery, with 6 legs and two arms. Their carapace colours range from deep black to dark shades of green, brown, red and yellow. There is certainly no mistaking their insectoid nature.
The Scrag architecture can be likened to H.R. Giger, being very organic looking in nature. This extends to their colony ships, which resemble a kitbash of spidery, organic shapes.
The Scrag will play a major role in the first story campaign, while the second campaign will focus almost entirely on war with the Scrag race."
Known Information
Based on initial descriptions, the following is known about the Scrag:
- Nature: Explicitly hostile towards humanity or the United Nations Space Fleet.
- Physiology: Insectoid (features resembling insects).
- Technology: Possess faster-than-light (FTL) travel capabilities, allowing them to operate on an interstellar scale.
Role in Game
As the designated main antagonists, the Scrag are expected to be a primary source of conflict and danger within the game. Encounters with the Scrag may involve combat scenarios, navigating through their territory, or dealing with the consequences of their hostile actions. Their presence likely forms a significant part of the challenges faced during exploration missions.
Lore Status
Currently (as of early 2025), detailed background lore for the Scrag—including their specific appearance, culture, motivations, ship designs, origins, or the extent of their territory—has not been fully defined or revealed by Fleetyard Studios. This page will be updated as more official information becomes available.
