Project Development Overview

High-Level Overview

Following the successful completion of our Kickstarter campaign, our focus is now on increasing the size of our team while working toward the release of Early Access.

Planned Early Access Features

  • The Magellan Class vessel finished and polished
  • Full NPC crew implemented
  • All major player roles implemented, with per-department task generation
  • VR mode implemented and polished
  • Shuttles implemented
  • Explorable procedural alien ship/station interiors
  • Planetary landings via shuttle
  • Ship vs Ship standalone game mode where the objective is to capture the opponent's bridge

Patch Cycle 0.225.0.0 — The Drake Equation

Objectives

  1. Remodel the Magellan Class vessel — Streamlined design with visible FTL hardware
  2. Galaxy Generation Improvements — Including life-generation framework
  3. Sensors Interface Overhaul — New UI with planetary scan mode

New Galaxy Additions

  • Added Roche Limit calculations to star system generation
  • Introduced life-generation framework; alien races appear as text descriptions
  • Switched stellar data to the Gaia catalogue with a 2000 light-year range
  • Added Kuiper Belt-style objects to star systems
  • Implemented Hill Sphere, Orbital Period, and Orbital Velocity calculations

New Gameplay Features

  • Enabled scanning of planets for surface data
  • Added the ability to search and plot courses to distant sectors
  • Added environmental elements like floor dirt
  • Introduced a Roomba to clean the floors

Ship Interior Updates

  • Added 3D planetary scanning holograms to the bridge holo-display
  • Installed new wall panels
  • Recreated VIP crew corridor structure
  • Completed B Deck corridor and security desk
  • Built new corridor and room layouts for D and E Decks
  • Constructed a functional B-F lift

Polish and Improvements

  • Overhauled the Sensors console UI using UNOS design principles
  • Updated the scanning and navigation tutorial
  • Added keyboard indicators to tutorial textbox
  • Improved holo-display with zoom and habitable zone visual markers
  • Added new names to the credits
  • Enabled Steam Cloud Saves
  • Created updated deck maps

Accessibility

  • Added Headbob mode setting (disabled by default)
  • Included right-click zoom under accessibility controls
  • Provided multiple crosshair style options

Exterior Ship Model

  • Created a new external hull design
  • Increased vertical spacing between decks
  • Built floor cavities in the ship structure in preparation for damage modeling

  • Atmospheric chemicals in planetary scans
  • Atmospheric pressure readings
  • Oceanic chemical data
  • Greenhouse effect calculations
  • Default ship security code setting in customization

Objectives

  1. Apply final polish to the bridge interior
  2. Add two NPC crewmembers to the bridge with a basic command interface
  3. Enable generation of moons in star systems

  • Implement physical interaction with the holo-display

Ship Interior Updates

  • Remove structural beam from bridge windows
  • Add missing consoles to bridge alcoves
  • Implement placeholder UI for:
    • Tactical console (weapons)
    • Communications
    • Engineering
    • Defence
    • Internal Security

  • Build holo-display hardware
  • Remodel the bridge ceiling with a central window
