Engineering

The engineering department is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical and electrical systems, including propulsion, defensive systems, auxiliary systems, and support systems for crew and cargo. Engineering staff will wear orange clothing.

Overview

The engineering department are considered the technical experts for a starship's crew. They are responsible for maintaining the mechanical and engineering systems, most of which is housed in the lower decks of the starship. Engineers are primarily based out of F and G Decks, though will service areas of the ship if mechanical faults are reported. Additionally, the engineers will make use of a series of Maintenance Tunnels that are located around the ship to discreetly access vital systems such as the FTL Coil.

Currently, the only engineering duties concern managing the starship's power systems. From a Cold & Dark Start, engineers will be responsible for bringing the ship's Fusion Reactor online and supplying it with the necessary materials. Once this is completed, engineers must bring all power systems online and maintain the reactor to ensure it remains stable.

Roles

Chief Engineer

The Chief Engineer role is the highest ranking engineer placed in charge of the department. Based in the Engineering Office, the Chief Engineer will have to manage engineering tasks and repairs, assigning tasks to crew members to complete them. In the UNSF, the Chief Engineer role is often assigned to a Lieutenant Commander.

Second Engineer

The second highest ranking engineer in the department is the Second Engineer, who will be based on the Bridge, most likely monitoring systems from the Engineering Alcove. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to a Lieutenant.

Third Engineering

The third highest ranking engineer in the department will also be based on the Bridge. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to the Ensign rank.

Engineer

An member of the engineering department. Engineers will be assigned tasks to complete, such as maintenance of Magellan systems or replacement of components. Some will be based on the Bridge to monitor ship. Tasks will be assigned to them by the Chief Engineer. In the UNSF, Engineers often hold the rank of crewman.
