NOTICE: This page is a Work in Progress as much of the lore/Development for the game is yet to be established.

An order is the term given to an instruction from a senior officer given to a junior member. On a starship, it is primarily used by the Command department to manage operations of the bridge or give officers tasks to perform. In current gameplay builds, commands can be given to NPCs operating a specific station and will perform actions related to the station.
Gameplay
In current builds, players can give orders to NPCs that are manning Bridge stations such as the Helm and Sensors. They can be issued from the Radial Menu (default F) whilst the player looks at a highlighted station. To issue an order, the player will need to move their cursor to the option and issue it with the interaction button (Left Mouse Button) the player can select and issue the command. Some orders will only be available if a target has been selected on the Holo-Display, for example the work if there
Summoning and Dismissing NPCs
If a station's seat is empty and the player uses the Radial Menu to interact with the station, the player will be given the options to Sit Down in the chair or Summon an NPC in the station. Choosing the latter will summon an NPC for the player to issue commands to.
Once an NPC is manning the station, they will can be dismissed with the Dismiss NPC command, located at the top of the Radial Menu. When pressed, the NPC will leave and the station will become available for players to man or summon another NPC in their place.
Issuing Orders

When manned, the station officer will remain idle until the player issues them an order. Depending on the station, the orders and functions will vary. For example, commands to the Helm Officer will mainly regard the ship's travel and navigation, such as plotting courses to targets sent to them, altering the speed of travel, and returning to Earth. Likewise, the Sensor Specialist will mainly regard displaying a Sensor Range and altering the shown distance, performing surveys on selected targets, and displaying renders of targets on the Holo-Display.
For most orders to work, targets must have been selected on Holo-Display. For example, the Helm Officer will only navigate to a target if it has been selected on the Holo-Display. Once a Command Target is set, an order will appear to Navigate to the command target. When an order is given, it can be displayed from the Order button on the station. Once the order is completed, it will disappear from the station.
Managing Orders

Orders can be managed from the Bridge Orders tab on Command Console. This displays all the currently issued orders and provides the officer using the station (whether it be the Captain, XO or Officer of the Watch) the ability to cancel them. When an order is cancelled, the station it was issued to stops their activities and awaits new orders to be given.
Shipwide Orders
A shipwide order is given by the captain to the entire crew to complete. They are usually given to tasks that the captain would like the crew to achieve in their absence or whilst they perform other duties. An example of this is surveying a star system, performing short range surveys on each stellar object until it meets 100% completion.
Shipwide orders can be given through the Radial Menu under the Orders Tab. They will require a Command Target selected on the Holo-Display on the ship's bridge. Once given, the crew will work to complete the objective. Once the objective criteria is met, the crew will alert the captain to its completion, requesting their presence on the bridge for further actions.
Shipwide orders can be managed from the Shipwide Orders tab on the Command Console. Like regular orders, they are displayed on what is currently issued and can be cancelled from the interface.
Development

Orders first implemented during dev build 0.225.0.109 under as the Command mechanic. In their original state, they were used to provide instructions to officers stationed at the Helm and Sensors Station. For targets to work, they required the player to select a target on either the Holo-Display or Sensors Station, then send it to the relevant station. The display of the orders was in a long menu, with sub-menus provided for additional settings with the Sensors Station. The display was changed once the Radial Menu was implemented in dev build 0.227.0.8.

Shipwide orders were incorporated into the game in dev build 0.226.0.19 as a function in the Holo-Display. Consisiting of only "Explore This System", it could be issued by selecting a target on the Holo-Display, bringing up a menu with the target options. Issuing the shipwide order was changed in dev build 0.227.0.8 when the Radial Menu was added to gameplay.
