Jonesy is the resident ship's cat aboard the UNSF Magellan. He spawns on the balcony in the VIP Lounge and can often be found exploring the decks of the ship.
Implementation and Behaviour
Jonesy was added to the game around Development Build 0.225.0.44 (mid-September 2024). He functions as an ambient Non-Player Character (NPC) designed to add life to the ship environment.
According to developer notes, Jonesy utilizes a spline-based pathfinding system to roam the vessel and has custom idle animations. Fixes to his pathing behavior were implemented in later builds (e.g., 0.225.0.60, 0.225.0.72).
Trivia
- The name "Jonesy" is a reference to the tabby cat belonging to Ellen Ripley in the classic 1979 science fiction horror film Alien.
