NOTICE: This page is a Work in Progress as much of the lore/Development for the game is yet to be established.

Sagittarius A* (often abbreviated Sgr A* or Sag A*) is the supermassive black hole located at the center of the simulated Milky Way galaxy within Starship Simulator.

Overview

Positioned at the galactic coordinate origin (0, 0, 0), Sagittarius A* serves as the gravitational anchor for the Milky Way and defines the center of the Galactic Core region. In Starship Simulator, it is represented as a unique celestial object based on its real-world counterpart.

The real Sagittarius A* has a mass estimated to be over four million times that of Sol. While black holes themselves do not emit light, the immense gravity affects nearby gas and dust, creating observable phenomena like accretion disks and powerful radiation emissions.

In-Game Representation

  • Location: Confirmed to be located precisely at galactic coordinates (0, 0, 0), serving as the origin point for the game's navigation system. This position was specifically corrected during development (Build 0.225.0.16).
  • Model: The game features a "hand-crafted volumetric version" of Sag A*, replacing an earlier 2D model to provide a more visually compelling representation (Build 0.225.0.16).
  • Data: Added to the internal Real Stars database (Build 0.225.0.27), although specific code to recognize it uniquely beyond standard black hole mechanics might still be evolving.
  • Environment: Defines the Galactic Core sector, described by developers as intended to be a "special and dangerous place". Visiting the core is considered a significant undertaking due to the travel time involved.

Navigation

As the origin point (0,0,0) of the galactic coordinate system, all locations within the Starship Simulator Milky Way galaxy are measured relative to Sagittarius A*. This makes it a fundamental reference point for all Helm navigation and Sensors targeting.
