Moon
Appearance
A moon (also called a natural satellite) is a naturally forming celestial body that orbits a planet. Their characteristics vary depending on multiple factors, though they generally will abide by principles such as the Roche Limit and Hill Sphere. Examples of moons include the Moon/Lunar, Phobos, Demios, Io, Europa, Titan, Trition, Styx, Nix, et al.
Development
Moons were added to the game during dev build 0.227.0.11 in celebration for the completion of the Artemis II mission. This included Earth's Moon and the addition of moon generation in procedurally generated star systems. During dev build 0.227.0.12, moon generation was improved by incorporating systems such as the Roche Limit and Hill Sphere systems.
Notes
- In real-life, the professional term for a moon is a natural satellite. However, many organisations call these moons because it is the term often used for simplicity, with Earth's Moon being used to describe Lunar.
