Tutorial:Ship Customisation
NOTICE: This page is a Work in Progress as much of the lore/Development for the game is yet to be established.
This tutorial explains how to use the Ship Customisation menu in Starship Simulator to personalize the appearance and registration details of your starship. In current builds, the player can only customise a Magellan class vessel, designated the UNSF Magellan by default.
Accessing the Menu
The Ship Customisation menu can typically be accessed at any time while in-game by pressing the F3 key (default).
Main Interface
The menu presents several tabs allowing customization of different aspects of the ship. Across the bottom are three standard buttons:
- CANCEL: Closes the menu without applying any pending changes.
- DEFAULTS: Resets all options on the currently viewed tab to their default settings.
- SAVE: Applies any changes made across all tabs and closes the menu.
The available tabs are:
MISC (Miscellaneous)
This tab handles the ship's identification and special decorations.
- Ship Registration:
- Organisation Prefix: Sets the prefix for the ship's registry number (e.g., "UNSF", "TUU"). Default is often UNSF.
- Ship Name: Allows you to enter a custom name for your vessel (e.g., "Magellan", "Petrovic").
- Registry Number: Sets the numerical designation following the prefix (e.g., "NCC-1701", "TUU-0001").
- Seasonal Decorations:
- Dropdown menu to select available seasonal decoration packages (e.g., Halloween, Christmas). Selecting "None" removes decorations. A preview is intended for the adjacent box. (Note: Functionality may vary by build).
WALLS
This tab controls the appearance of interior walls.
- WALL PRIMARY: Use the color wheel and brightness slider to select the main color for most wall surfaces throughout the ship.
- WALL SECONDARY: (Planned Feature) Intended for selecting accent wall colors or materials.
- WALL TRIM: (Planned Feature) Intended for customizing wall trim elements.
- HANDRAILS: (Planned Feature) Intended for customizing handrail appearance.
FLOORING
This tab controls the appearance of interior floors.
- FLOOR PRIMARY: Use the color wheel, brightness slider, and material dropdown (e.g., "Carpet", potentially others like "Metal", "Resin") to set the main flooring color and type.
- FLOOR SECONDARY: Allows selection of a secondary color and material type, likely used for accent areas or different room types.
- FLOOR EDGING: (Planned Feature) Intended for customizing floor trim or edging.
- STEPS: (Planned Feature) Intended for customizing the appearance of stair steps.
UI PANELS
This tab controls the color scheme of the interactive computer consoles (like Helm, Sensors, Engineering panels).
- UI BACKGROUND: Sets the main background color of the console screens using the color wheel and brightness slider.
- UI FOREGROUND: Sets the color for text and primary elements on the console screens using the color wheel and brightness slider.
- UI BUTTONS: Sets the color for interactive buttons displayed on console screens using the color wheel and brightness slider.
LIGHTING
This tab controls the ship's internal ambient lighting colors.
- CONDITION NORMAL: Use the color wheel and brightness slider to set the color tint and intensity for the standard, non-alert lighting throughout the ship.
- Other Conditions: (Planned Feature) Additional slots suggest future options for customizing lighting colors under different alert conditions (e.g., Red Alert, Yellow Alert).
Saving Changes
After making adjustments across any of the tabs, click the SAVE button at the bottom to apply them to your ship. Use DEFAULTS on a specific tab to reset only that tab's options, or CANCEL to exit without saving any modifications made in the current session.
