WIP

From Starship Simulator
Example WIP Post-It

WIP Notes are virtual sticky notes (or occasionally stickers) found placed on various surfaces, consoles, or equipment throughout the UNSF Magellan in Starship Simulator.

Purpose

These notes serve as visual indicators placed by the developers, Dan Govier and Claire Govier, during the game's development. They signify that a particular area, object, interface, or feature is incomplete, a placeholder, or currently a Work In Progress (WIP). They help manage player expectations when exploring the ship, especially in Dev Builds or Demo versions where many elements are still under active development.

Appearance and Placement

They typically resemble yellow sticky notes with "WIP" handwritten on them.

According to a comment often made by Dan Govier, the notes are usually placed somewhat crookedly, reflecting the idea that "no one puts up a post-it straight in real life".

Examples

WIP Notes might be found:

  • On unfinished wall or floor panels.
  • Attached to consoles with incomplete UI elements.
  • In rooms or corridors that are still using placeholder "greybox" geometry.
  • On specific equipment that is not yet functional (like the reactor early in development).
