Organic Printer

From Starship Simulator

This page is a Work in Progress as much of the lore/Development for the game is yet to be established.

An in-game Organic Printer station, shown printing organic foods.

The Organic Printer is an interactive prop that functions as a device capable of generating organic materials, primarily food items. It represents a key piece of technology for sustainable living aboard UNSF starships.

Overview

Unlike simple decorative items, the Organic Printer features a dedicated interface. It has a role in resource management and crew sustenance. It is a specialised device, essential for producing fresh provisions during long voyages. The developer stated that printed foods do not taste the same as natural foods.

Functionality

  • Material Generation: the primary function of the Organic Printer is to produce organic items. It can generate various types of produce
  • Interactive Interface: each printer station is equipped with a menu screen interface that players use to select what to print, manage resources, or monitor its operation
  • Resource Consumption: while not yet fully detailed, it is implied that the printer should consume some form of raw resources (e.g., nutrients, energy) to produce organic output
  • Taste: the idea that printed foods taste inferior to naturally sourced foods implies a game mechanic designed to affect morale, resource management, and perhaps the skills and experience of the chef/cook
