Brig

From Starship Simulator

NOTICE: This page is a Work in Progress as much of the lore/Development for the game is yet to be established.

The Brig is the term given to secure holding cells used for temporary confinement of personnel either for security purposes or as punishment. The term originates from American naval tradition, though it is often used to describe some military prisons. Aboard Magellan-class vessels, the Brig is located in the aft region of E Deck.

Location

The Brig facility is located on E Deck. According to developer notes (Build 0.225.0.75), the Brig functionality and associated assets (like basic lighting and forcefield collisions) were specifically moved to this E Deck location during development, likely placing it near other Tactical or security-related functions, or potentially near the Shuttle Bay.

Function

The primary purpose of the Brig is to securely detain individuals who may pose a risk to the ship, the crew, or the mission. This could include:

  • Crew members violating regulations.
  • Disruptive individuals in multiplayer sessions.
  • Potentially captured hostile entities (though specific functionality for non-crew detention is TBD).

The cells are secured, likely featuring reinforced doors and, as mentioned in development build notes, active forcefields with collision detection. Operation of the Brig likely falls under the purview of the Tactical department.

Gameplay

  • Multiplayer: In multiplayer sessions, the host player has administrative controls (Host Controls, default F6) that include the ability to send disruptive players directly to the Brig. Developer notes confirmed fixes related to this function for multiple clients (Build 0.225.0.75).
  • Roleplaying/Missions: The Brig may feature in future planned mission content or serve as a location for roleplaying scenarios involving security breaches or personnel discipline. A tutorial for its operation (Tutorial:Brig Operations) is anticipated.
