Tutorial:Cold and Dark
NOTICE: This page is a Work in Progress as much of the lore/Development for the game is yet to be established.
This tutorial provides the step-by-step procedure for starting a Magellan Class vessel from a Cold & Dark state, where all primary systems are powered down. This process primarily involves activating power distributors and bringing the main Fusion Reactor online. It is typically performed by crew members in the Engineering Department. This guide is based on the detailed shutdown procedure originally compiled by Discord user BC5 (see original guide). (Note: This procedure involves moving between multiple decks, primarily G Deck and F Deck. Be prepared to navigate the ship.)
Phase 1: Supercold to Fusion Reaction
G Deck - Initial Power
- Start Capacitor Room: Enter the room and interact with the main panels. Action: Turn ON all switches/systems on the panels.
- Reactor Room (Distributor Panels - near entry?): Locate the panels controlling Quadrant Distributors for F and G Decks.
- Action: Turn ON the four G-Deck Quadrant Distributors. For each, Set Input to Startup Distributor.
- Action: Turn ON the four F-Deck Quadrant Distributors. For each, Set Input to Startup Distributor. (8 Distributors activated in total).

- Action: Open the four Helium-3 (He-3) tank valves.
- Action: Open the two main He Supply valves (on the wall).
- Action: Open the two main He-3 Supply valves (on the wall).
- Verify: Check indicators to ensure He and He-3 tanks are filling/pressurizing.
- Action: Power ON both He Chillers.
- Action: Power ON both He-3 Chillers.
- (Deuterium Side): Go to the other end of the room.
- Action: Open the four Deuterium tank valves.
- Action: Open the two main Deuterium Supply valves (on the wall).
- Verify: Check indicators to ensure Deuterium tanks are filling/pressurizing.
- Action: Power ON both Deuterium Chillers.
- (Pump Controls - Front of room):
- Action: Open both main Deuterium output valves.
- Action: Power ON the Deuterium Pump.
- Action: Open both main He-3 output valves.
- Action: Power ON the He-3 Pump.
- Action: Open both main He output valves (coolant).
- Action: Power ON the Coolant Pump.
- (He/He-3 Side): Go behind the tanks near the entrance.
G Deck - Initiating Fusion
- Reactor Room (Around Reactor Core): Locate the six large valves surrounding the reactor structure. Action: Open all six valves.
- Reactor Room (Center Console - Left Side): Monitor the Coil Temperatures display.
- Wait until temperatures drop below 20K (Kelvin). They should stabilize between 2K and 4K.
- Action: Once cooled, turn ON the Field Coils.
- Action: Activate Initiate Fusion Reaction. (The reaction should start, defaulting to 10% output).
- Action: Increase Reaction Rate setting to 100%.
- Action: Set Reactor Mode to Supply.
Phase 1 Complete. The reactor is now generating power.
Phase 2: Ship Electricity
G Deck - Main Power Routing
- Reactor Room (Back of Room - Reactor Output Distributor Panel): Action: Turn ON all switches/systems on this panel.
- Reactor Room (Main Battery Distributor Screen - Far Left?): Action: Connect all 8 distributors listed on this screen.
- Reactor Room (Other System Screens - FTL, Shields, Weapons, Sublight): Action: Turn ON all systems/switches shown on these four screens.
F Deck - Battery Systems
- F Deck Tunnels: Locate the 8 Battery Array Distributor panels (2 per quadrant). Action: Turn ON everything on each panel.
- F Deck Ring 02 Corridor: Enter each of the 8 Battery Rooms.
- Inside each room, interact with the console for each of the 6 Battery Arrays.
- Action: On each array console, Turn ON all systems/switches.
- Verify: Check that each battery cell is shown as 'Mounted' or 'Online'. (48 array consoles, 480 cells total ship-wide).
- F Deck Tunnels: Locate the 8 Battery Array Aggregator panels (2 per quadrant). Action: Turn ON everything on each panel.
G Deck & Upwards - Deck Power Distribution
- Reactor Room (Deck Distributor Panels): Locate the 4 Deck Distributor panels (1 per quadrant). Action: Turn ON everything on each panel.
- Reactor Room (Quadrant Distributors): Return to the 8 G-Deck and F-Deck Quadrant Distributor panels previously activated in Phase 1. Action: Change the Input setting on all 8 panels from "Startup Distributor" to Deck Distributor.
- Start Capacitor Room: Action: Turn OFF all systems/switches previously activated in Phase 1. (Startup power no longer needed).
- E Deck: Navigate up the stairs from the G-Deck Reactor Room to E-Deck engineering access. Locate the Quadrant Distributors for E-Deck. Action: Turn ON everything for each distributor, ensuring the Input is set to Deck Distributor.
