Medical

The medical department is responsible for the health and wellbeing of crew members aboard a ship or station. They provide a range of medical services in a variety of fields, including diagnosing and treatment of injuries, diseases and health conditions. Medical crew members wear green clothing and work out of the ship's sickbay.

Roles

Chief Medical Officer

Heading up the medical department and filling the role of chief surgeon, the Chief Medical Officer creates and manages tasks for the department, assigns staff to jobs, and completes medical treatment where required. The role is often assigned to a Lieutenant Commander.

Surgeon

Members of the department who are fully trained in surgery, surgeons will treat injured crew members where required and coordinate the shift in the absence of of the Chief Medical Officer. The role is often assigned to a Lieutenant or Ensign.

Nurse

Members of the department who specialise in patient care and treatment, nurses are tasked with general patient care and assist in surgeries. Working under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer, nurses hold the rank of crewman.

Duties on Ship (Gameplay)

  • treat Injured crew
  • manage crew mental health
  • combat ship wide pathogens

Development

In early stages of development the department would have featured medics in place of nurses. These would have specialised in various fields of medical care, very similar to both the surgeon and nurse roles.
