Operations
NOTICE: This page is a Work in Progress as much of the lore/Development for the game is yet to be established.
The operations/deck department handles all aspects of shipboard piloting, navigation and shuttle operations. Operations crewmembers will wear brown clothing.
Overview
Operations are the main piloting crew aboard a starship. Their duties revolve around piloting the starship from one area to the other and navigating obstacles in-between. They are currently not based out of a single area, though will likely have duties based in the Shuttle Bay and Bridge in future updates.
Currently, pilots from the operations department have access to the Helm. The station allows them control over the FTL Drive and use RCS Thrusters to steer the direction of travel. Helm operators can set the navigation targets for the ship, either setting coordinates manually, or using those selected by Sensors Station and Holo-Display. They also can control bridge target indicators and use the Autopilot to control these automatically.
Roles
Deck Chief
The chief of the operations department. The Deck Chief will manage the department from the Deck Crew Office, assign tasks to operations personnel and lead the main shift. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to a Lieutenant Commander.
Second Chief
The second-in-command of the operations department. The Second Chief will manage a shift in place of the Deck Chief and fulfil their role if they are unavailable. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to a Lieutenant.
Third Chief
The third-in-command of the operations department. The Third Chief will manage a shift that neither the Deck Chief or Second Chief can run. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to an Ensign.
Helm
Members of the department placed at the Bridge's Helm. The Helm Officer is placed in control of the ship's trajectory to the captain or watch's orders. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to a Crewmember (possibly an Ensigns or Enlisted personnel).
Pilot
A member of the department in charge of flying shuttles. The pilot will likely be tasked with flying them on away missions and supply runs. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to a Crewmember (possibly an Ensigns or Enlisted personnel).
Deck Crew
A member of the deck department. They are placed in charge of managing operations within the Shuttle Bay and Probe Storage. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to a Crewmember (possibly an Ensigns or Enlisted personnel).
Duties on Ship (Gameplay)
- Pilot Ship and Shuttles.
- Deliver cargo around the ship.
Development
In pre-0.224 versions, the department was referred to as the deck crew. The name is also used in development notes, such as the Magellan Crew Compliment spreadsheet.
