Tactical

From Starship Simulator

This page is a Work in Progress as much of the lore/Development for the game is yet to be established.

Tactical

The tactical department is primarily responsible for the ship's security, defence, and tactical operations. This includes managing weapons systems, conducting interdiction, and responding to threats. Tactical crewmembers will wear red clothing.

Roles

Chief of Security

As the head of the tactical department the Chief of Security will lead the department. The Chief Security Officer will probably have control of the ship's armoury and will authorise any issuing of firearms. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to a Lieutenant Commander.

Deputy Chief

The second in command of the tactical department is the Deputy Chief who will represent the Chief of Security whilst unavailable, or working an opposing shift patterrn. In the UNSF, the role is often assigned to a Lieutenant.

Deputy

An officer assigned the watch during shifts out of regular hours, a deputy will work when both the Chief of Security and Deputy Chief are unavailable. In the UNSF, the role is often assigned to a Ensign.

Weapons Officer

The officer is assigned a specialised role to operate the Tactical Console on the Bridge. A Weapons Officer will manage the vessel's weapons systems during hostile situations. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to crewmen.

Shields Specialist

The officer operates the Defence Console on the Bridge, adjacent to the tactical console. A Shield Specialist will manage the vessel's defensive systems during hostile situations. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to crewmen.

Security Officer

Crew members assigned to the tactical department are collectively known as Security Officers. In addition to the more specialist roles, they patrol areas of the ship, stand guard at points requiring enhanced security, accompany off-ship excursion parties for security purposes and conduct investigations. A security officer from each shift also mans the Bridge's Internal Security Console at all times. This console is among several yet to receive content; however, is expected to focus on surveillance systems and data designed to detect vulnerabilities in the ship's security and protection of personnel.

Security Officers are authorised to carry arms, unlike the bulk of the crew complement. Once fully implemented in-game they will train and maintain their skills using the ship's firing range on Deck E within the brig complex. They have authority to arrest and detain, acting not only as a defence force, but also as a de facto police department.

In the UNSF, the role is assigned to crewmen.
