Magellan Class
NOTICE: This page is a Work in Progress as much of the lore/Development for the game is yet to be established.

A Magellan Class is a type of starship used by the United Nations Space Fleet. It is a retrofitted interplanetary spaceship developed as the first working prototype for a starship capable of faster than light travel for research and exploration. The first prototype vessel of this class serves as the main default playable vessel for players in Starship Simulator, named by default as the UNSF Magellan.
Layout
Exterior
The Magellan class features a primarily oval hull shape, transitioning to a more rectangular form in its aft section where four large nacelles housing the main propulsion engines are located. Four RCS thruster clusters are positioned around the outer edge of the main saucer section for maneuvering. An external Alcubierre Drive ring surrounds the vessel, connecting to the main hull via structural supports, including a large ventral fin which contains additional engineering decks. Weapon turret hardpoints are situated on the dorsal hull, forward of the bridge.
Interior
Most decks within the Magellan class utilize a circular layout. Each deck contains a central room or space including the Bridge on A Deck, the Data Centre spanning B and C Decks, and the main reactor complex on Decks D through G. Typically, a primary corridor ("Ring A") encircles this central area, providing access to it and surrounding rooms. Decks dedicated to specific functions may feature modified layouts; C deck and F deck incorporate an additional ring corridor, while D deck and E deck utilize a larger outer ring ("C Ring") and supplementary corridors, partly to accommodate engineering access and the large Shuttle Bay.
Decks
A Deck
The uppermost deck serves as the ship's command centre. It houses the Bridge, the Captain's and Executive Officer's offices, a conference room, restroom, and the upper level of the VIP Lounge. Access is primarily via the VIP Lounge staircase/lift from B Deck.
B Deck
The second deck functions as the administration and senior officers' accommodation level. It contains six staterooms, the main Data Centre upper level, a ring corridor, and the lower level of the VIP Lounge (featuring the VIP piano), along with its associated kitchen and pantry.
C Deck
Serving as the main science level, C deck houses various specialized science labs (including Botany, Chemistry, Physics, etc.), the lower part of the Data Centre, probe storage, four airlocks, and general storage facilities. It features two ring corridors.
D Deck
The fourth deck provides upper habitation facilities. It contains numerous crew cabins, the upper level of The Mall, the main Mess Hall, a bar, primary Medical Facilities, Hydroponics bays, the Shuttle Control Room, and the ship's Brig.
E Deck
Housing lower habitation and the main Shuttle Bay, the fifth deck features additional crew quarters and the lower level of The Mall. Its outer corridors also contain components for the Reaction Control System, primarily accessed from F Deck below.
F Deck
The sixth deck is a primary engineering level. It contains the main Reactor Room, extensive lower maintenance tunnels, Cryogenic Storage facilities, and battery rooms. It features two ring corridors and provides maintenance access to systems on E Deck.
G Deck
The seventh deck is another key engineering level located below F Deck. It houses the main Reactor Control Room, additional Cryogenic Storage, and large start capacitors used for reactor ignition.
Crew Complement
| Shift No. | Personnel No. | Start Time | End Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shift 1 | 68 | 08:00 | 16:00 |
| Shift 2 | 64 | 16:00 | 00:00 |
| Shift 3 | 64 | 00:00 | 08:00 |
The Magellan Class is expected to be run by a personnel of 196. Many positions are run by crewmen, a term given to personnel of a non-specific rank. Each department is run by a Chief officer (often ranking as a Lieutenant Commander), with at least two duty watch officer of rank of Lieutenant and Ensign.
The Magellan works on a three shift rotation, with three crewmembers assigned to non-chief/command roles on each rotation. For example, the Sensor Specialist will have three crewmembers assigned to the role: one to run the first shift in daytime hours (8:00-16:00), a second to run it during evening hours (16:00-0:00), and a third to run it in morning hours (0:00-8:00).

Development
Early prototype designs for the Magellan class featured a simpler circular shape with aft engines. The distinctive external Alcubierre Drive ring and ventral fin were added during development (reflected in patch 0.225).
