Science

The science department collects data and samples, analyses them in shipboard laboratories, and contributes to various scientific fields. Science crewmembers will wear blue clothing.

Overview

The science department serves as the scientific experts on the ship. It consists of experts from various fields of science, including astronomy, astrophysics, biology, botany, chemistry, geology, linguistics, material sciences, and quantum physics. The majority of science department work takes place in the laboratories on C Deck. However, two members of the science team will be stationed on the bridge to operate the science stations (Sensors Station and Comms Station).

Currently, science department crew operate the Sensors Station on the bridge, where operate the sensors to run surveys of celestial objects. They can also uses these to provide navigation targets for the Helm. Another science officer (presumably a member of the Linguistics Lab) can be spawned in the Communications Station, though their role has currently not been implemented.

Roles

Chief Science Officer

The chief scientific officer on the ship and department head. The head of science will likely create tasks and experiments for the department to run, and assign other officers to perform them. The Chief Science Officer will be based out of the ship's Science Office on C Deck. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to a Lieutenant Commander.

Sensors Specialist

Members of the department who have the best expertise with the sensors. Based from the Bridge, the specialist is placed in charge of the sensors array to highlight bodies of interest and perform surveys on objects. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to crew members (likely Ensigns and Enlisted personnel).

Comms Officer

Members of the department who have the best expertise with communications equipment and linguistics. Based from the Bridge, the officer will manage the Communications Station to receive and send transmissions to other ships, and relay messages to the Captain. In the UNSF, the role is assigned to crew members (likely Ensigns and Enlisted personnel).

Science Officer

An member of the science department. Science officers will be assigned tasks to complete, such as experiments to perform, studies into phenomena or investigations into discovered objects. Tasks will be assigned to them by the Head of Science. Scientists often rank as Ensigns or Enlisted personnel.

Duties on Ship (Gameplay)

  • Perform Detailed Scans from bridge.
  • Provide navigational Targeted for the Pilot.
  • Analyse Surface Samples, Artifacts and bis samples.
  • Study Scan data from scans.
